This is an entry level position with the goal to train an individual to become a machinist. The responsibilities of this position entail assisting plant machinist with a large variety of day-to-day tasks. This position is ideal for someone looking for a unique working experience that can help develop specialized skills.
General Responsibilities
· Ability to work well with others in a multicultural environment.
· Must be available to work overtime as required. Typical shift length is 11-18 hours a day, 7 days a week.
· Perform duties safely, responsibly, and efficiently.
· Timely and predictable attendance. Arrive prepared to perform daily duties.
· Exhibit professionalism and safe quality work standards.
· Follow company and OSHA safety polices, including but not limited to policies related to Covid-19.
Position Details
· Assist with repair, maintenance, and installation of equipment in assigned areas.
· Provide support and take direction from plant machinist.
· Perform beginning of shift preparations to food processing equipment (Greasing, assembly, inspection, repair, and startup).
· Participate in preseason projects. Installation of equipment, fabrication, rebuilds, etc.
· Participate in welding (Arc, TIG, MIG, and oxyacetylene).
Work Environment
· Remotely located in Naknek, AK. Must be willing and able to travel by airplane to remote location.
· Due to remote location, internet access and cell phone service are limited and unreliable at best.
· Approximate season contract May – end of July (dependent on the salmon run)
Qualifications
· Basic mechanical aptitude.
· Ability to work for 11 or more hours a day, 7 days a week.
· Ability to learn and take direction.
· Work well under pressure while also being safe and efficient.
· Proficient with hand and power tools
· Strong organizational and communication skills
Physical Requirements
· Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat for extended periods of time to perform repairs and inspections
· Must be able to stand for long periods of time
· Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time
· Must be able to work in cold and wet environment
· Must be able to work with and around seafood
Compensation
· Pay is based off experience. and performance
· Airfare provided from your closest metropolitan airport and back to that same airport at the end of the season upon completion.
· Room and board provided on-site
